All She Ate Was Lettuce and Swedish Fish?

One of my favorite gossip sites, Crazy Days and Nights, has a blind item from the celebrity personal trainer Gunnar Peterson.

“I had one actress who trained with me and took six Spin classes a week. And all she ate was lettuce and Swedish Fish. When the press asked her how she’d “transformed” her body, she said, “Oh, I do yoga and hike with my puppy.” That made me laugh. Don’t lie about how much you work out, because other women are going to think, I walk my dog, why don’t I look like that?”
It is this kind of stuff that drives me crazy. I work out every day. I eat extremely well and I am breast-feeding. I am not a toothpick. Then I have to read these ridiculous quotes by celebrities about the minimal workouts they do and their fake diets. Megan Fox had the audacity last week to suggest the reason she is so skinny is because she eats a lot of vinegar. Right. Ashley Greene from Twilight was asked by a reporter from Usmagazine.com recently how she stays so skinny and she responded, “It was really easy, we were working 12 hours a day, so it didn’t leave too much time to eat.” According to the article after her response, her publicist nudged her. When she did eat, she explained, she chose “really healthy stuff, which was nice.” At least Jenny McCarthy had the courage to admit her SHAPE Magazine cover was airbrushed.  http://jezebel.com/5212932/jenny-mccarthys-shape-cover-a-crap-load-of-airbrushing.
The truth is that these celebrities are under tremendous stress to fit into sample sizes and to meet the standards of casting directors and their agents. They go to extreme measures to lose and maintain their weight. They also know if they admit they have weight issues it makes it all the more difficult to land an endorsement deal for beauty products.
Here is an interesting link to an Insider news story on the lengths celebrities go to stay skinny including the use of Adderall and Clenbuterol http://www.theinsider.com/news/729276_The_celebrities_weird_and_unhealthy_ways_to_lose_weight
It is a vicious cycle. Celebrities lie about their diet and exercise regime. We try to follow their work out and diet plans and fail to get the same results. We beat ourselves up. We continue to buy the magazines.
I think if we all started making these celebrities accountable we would see less of this nonsense.
